Adrian Paul (TV's Highlander) stars in a new Sci-Fi Channel series, Tracker. The debut episode of this series has to rate as one of the all-time classics for original science fiction on television. It was well written, very, very funny and extremely refreshing. Subsequent episodes have kept pace with the original's humour and intensity. This show promises to have all the makings of a successful and memorable series.
The premise of the series is that an alien law-enforcement officer known as a Tracker, who comes from the planet Cyrron 17, in the Mygar system, some 100 lightyears away, comes to Earth, through a portable wormhole, as a form of sentient static energy. He morphs into a human by viewing an underwear ad on a billboard near where he 'landed'. His mission is to hunt down and recapture 218 alien fugitives that escaped from his home world and are now hiding on Earth in the city of Chicago.
Watching Adrian Paul in such an off kilter role as Cole is a great difference from the rugged Duncan MacLeod that he played on Highlander the TV series and in the feature film, Highlander: Endgame, and it is quite enjoyable. In the pilot episode, the initial scenes when Mel Porter (Amy Price-Francis) encounters the barely clothed and barely walking Cole is absolutely hilarious. As is the scene where Cole attempts to eat a corn-on-the-cob by biting it in half. Cole must learn how to walk, talk, eat and dress in this new world. Which puts him at a distinct disadvantage because the aliens that he is tracking kill unsuspecting humans and possess their body and memories. Cole, being of a moral and good species, refuses to do so, so he must learn everything on his own.
The cast is superb, Amy Price-Francis plays her sultry redhead character perfectly and Geraint Wyn Davies (Forever Knight) is utterly malevolent and manipulative playing the character Dr Zin. Leanne Wilson, who plays bartender Jess Brown, is more than subtle eye candy. As of yet though, her character has not been fully developed. There is still much we don't know about her. Her character has a lot of potential for growth. Who knows maybe she is also an alien?
